3 Person Warm-up:
First set: Jogging, jumping jacks, knee hugs
Second Set: Skipping, squats, quadricep stretch
Third set: Side shuffle, lungs, side lung
Fourth set: Run, Burpee, kick across your body (Hamstring)
Skill development: Have students dribble the ball around the grid. Call out commands, left foot only, right foot only, outside and inside rotating touches right foot, outside to inside rotating touches left foot, toe taps. (Add in commands gradually introduce them 1 at a time and demonstrate the technique. If in the gym give the more experienced students a wifle ball to dribble. This will be harder for students to manipulate. If outside have them dribble across to a line directly facing them.
*An experienced student can also demonstrate the technique to the class.
Gate Dribbling: If outside put down cones around the grid and explain that the object is to dribble through as many gates as possible in 1 minute. Each player has a partner who tries to prevent them from dribbling through the gates. After one minute the players switch and the other partner dribbles while the first partner becomes the defender.
Red Light Green Light: All players dribble a ball from one end of the grid/gym to the other. When the teacher yells out green light players dribble fast, red light-stop and put foot on top of ball, yellow--slow. Add more colors slowly: blue--hide behind ball, black—dance, purple—run around your ball, orange—hop over your ball back and forth. Provide more experienced players with a wifle ball.
Capture The Balls: Divide students up into teams of 3-4 players. The object of the game is to retrieve as many balls as they can and dribble them back to their home base (square). They cannot pass the ball to their teammates! Students can run to other teams squares and take balls from the other teams and protect your own. Count up who has the most at the end. Make smaller balls such as wifle and hockey balls worth more points than soccer balls. Between each trial have each team take 30 seconds to make up a new strategy. Talk to each group asking their plans.
