What? 2 goals, full field, 21 players, 2 GKs, balls, pinnies (3 colors)
Why? Working on transitioning full field with numbers up. Condiitioning while playing hockey.
How? There are 3 teams of 7 players, 1 GK in each goal. In the diagram the RED team has the ball and in attacking the BLUE defenders and BLACK GK. It is a 5v2 on half the field.
IF the RED team scores they take the ball and try to score at the other goal (YELLOW Defenders and GREEN GK). when they score again they keep going and try to score back on the BLUE/BLACK defended Goal.
IF the BLUE defenders come up wit the ball or the RED team misses the goal, they try to outlet the ball to their teammates in BLUE waiting on the 50 yd line.Once they do, they start attacking the YELLOW Defense with GREEN GK. Once again it will be a 5v2 because the RED defenders will join the attack. When this happens, the RED Team will leave behind 2 Defenders and the rest of the team will wait on the 50 yd line.
The same thing then repeats itself over and over again, if you keep scoring, you stay on attack until you lose possesion of it.
- Let it play out for about 5-7 minutes, depending on your team's level of fitness.
- Encourage your players to push themselves harder and further
Adjustments:
- easier: More players i.e. 5v3 or 6v3
-easier: smaller field or skinnier field
- harder: longer time
- Harder: limit number of touches on the ball, force passinga and cutting game.
