Keeper Spacial and Angle Awareness

Great site. An absolute must for coaches who are willing to change...

DESCRIPTION

1. Tie the one end of a long rope, - 30m, to the one goal post at ground level if possible. Else abouv the side board.

2. Do the same with the other end of the rope, but tie it to the opposite post.

3. Place five balls at random positions around the D as indicated.

4. Have a player or the coach stretch the rope to the edge of the D as indicated by the player in blue. Stretch the rope over a ball and start from left or right. Just to ease movement.

5. Have a striker strike the ball at goal.

The idea is that the keeper can now visualise what shots will be missing the goal box. Any ball on or close to the line of the rope is going to be on the post. The rope can also be tied to any relatively heavy object just of the post to increase the angle so that the close calls will rather get saved than taking a chance.

Have the keeper move up and down closer and further away from the ball to see what affect this has in the available space left for the striker to actually hit the box.
