Communication Match

Excellent drills, very detailed videos. Useful site for my U15 boys...
Parry, U15 boys Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

This mini-match style is intense so not only builds fitness levels, but relies on constant communication. The progession is the key to work on communication styles.

Setup as shown with 3/4/5 aside. Teams must dribble or receive a pass across the line between. If they succeed, they then attempt to score on the opposite side without stopping the game. Once across the line, opponent should step back 5m before defending.

Progression:

1) Play in complete silence

2) Play in complete silence but with emphasis on non-verbal communication (stick + body pointing, leading runs)

3) Play with verbal communication and encourage specific calls: left/right/through/square/back/line/names etc.

Discuss at the end: which was the best? Combo of non-verbal and verbal should be the outcome.

COACHING POINTS

Decide when to use
- Non-verbal communication: when behind defender and trying to mis-lead them, and when ball carrier or pre-scanning player is looking forward)

- Verbal communication: ball carrier needs support
