Preparation:
Keepers to line in in a row with a pile of balls in front of them about 5 m away. Make sure the keeper has his full kit on. NB have them make sure they have their groin protection in place.
Exercise:
The coach takes a position at the pile of balls about 5 m from the keepers. The keepers can stand close to one another. The closer the better, but leave about 200mm space between each.
Using his stick the coach hits, lifts, flicks the ball at the keepers. The keepers are to remain absolutely still. The first one that flinches is out of the game. The last one standing will be the owner of the balls of steel and have absolute bragging rights.
Temper the power in your shots at the keepers to the age, level as well as the level of protection the keepers have on. We don’t want them running for the searching for bomb shelters at their next game…
Outcome:
We want the keeper to feel confident in the protection he has in his kit. We want the keeper to know where his kits shortcomings are.
