Dribbling (Unopposed Ball Carry)

DESCRIPTION

  • Players dribble to cones, dribble around the cones keeping the ball on their open stick side. 
  • Drill not about speed but abilty to control the ball.
  • Aim is to smoothly move through the cones.
  • Stick should always be in contact with the ball.

 

COACHING POINTS

Head

  • Players should be encouraged to look up & keep the ball in their peripheral vision.
  • With the ball out in front of the player they will be able to, with practice, move with the ball whilst scanning for passing & movement options.

Hand & Arms

  • The player’s left hand should be top of the stick &right hand should be lower down the stick further. 
  • This type of grip is known as a basic grip.
  • The back of the left hand should be facing forwards to enable quick movement.
  • The player’s arms should be away from the body in order to force the ball away from the feet & to increase vision.

Feet

  • Players feet should move fowards in the direction they wish to travel

Body

  • Ball should be positioned towards the right side of body.
  • Head = 12 o'clock.
