- space can be classified into 3 different types with regards to passing
Dangerous space
- located behind 1st line of defenders in closer proximity to goal
- very well defended
- difficult space to keep possession as an attacker
- high risk that passes will be intercepted due to increased no. of defenders
- greatest threat to defence if successful passes
- good chance of creating scoring opportunities if ball gets into area
Advantage Space
- space ahead of ball carrier in direction of attack, between 1st line of defenders & ball carrier
- defending team look to pressure ball carrier so shorter pass well defended by opposing
- passing into space means can move up pitch
Possession Space
- easiest area for attacking team to maintain possession as not much defensive pressure
- space behind ball carrier
- useful for teams wishing to maintain possession & transfer ball from one side of pitch to other
