GK training - Getting up faster

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...

DESCRIPTION

With 1 GK:

  • GK starts from lying position. 
  • GK has 3 seconds to get up to ready position.
  • Coach throws a high ball at goal for GK to save.

With 2 GKs (junior under-12s):

  • Both GKs lying on either side of goal.
  • Take turns getting up within 3 seconds and saving a high ball thrown by coach

Coach how to get up quicker: 

  1. Bend the leg closest to ground backwards
  2. Use other leg and arm closest to ground to raise yourself.
  3. Do this quickly, as knee is exposed to hits while leg is bent.

Repeat activity and see if you can get up faster this time.
