DESCRIPTION

3-2-3-2 Press vs 4-3-3 with fetchers

COACHING POINTS

Positions in the formation:

  • GK
  • LCB = Left Centre Back
  • CB = Centre Back
  • RCB = Right Centre Back
  • BL = Blocker
  • BL = Blocker
  • LAM = Left Attacking Midfielder (wide mid)
  • RAM = Right Attacking Midfielder (wide mid)
  • CAM = Centre Attacking Midfielder (think normal centre link)
  • CF = Centre Forward
  • CF = Centre Forward

Roles in the outlet phase:

Defenders:

  • CB's can vary between transfers at the back (safe option)
  • Self-take/self-pass option to manipulate point player in their press
  • Play passes into the blockers to attacking through wide channel
  • Drop a wide midfielder into the defence to create a back 4

Blockers:

  • Main role is to receive and distribute the ball to the CAM, LAM and RAM through well-placed angled passes
  • When the attack starts up their channel the blocker closest joins to assist as a guard player
  • Blockers MUST NOT run with the ball as this leaves us vulnerable to counter-attacks

CAM:

  • Operates as a normal centre link would or drop-centre forward, but just higher up the field
  • They stay fairly central in the field and aim to join the attack through the shoulder of the D or top D
  • They can use drop passes to blockers to transfer, window passes (skip passes) to get crash balls to forwards, hatch passes into the D
  • They must post-up in the build up

LAM and RAM:

  • They stay wide on the outlet to stretch the defence wide and create options from wide channels
  • They must look to pass to blockers, CAM and forwards
  • In the press the help-side LAM/RAM will mark the blocker
  • In the press the ball-side LAM will mark the outside back

Forwards:

  • We have two forwards in this formation, so one must always lead to T-Point and one stays in the D (around P-Spot)

Marking roles:

  • Back 3 will mark the strikers
  • Help-side high midfielder will mark the help-side fetcher
  • Ball-side wide midfielder will mark ball-side outside back
  • CAM will cut the pass from CB to help-side outside back

Outcome:

  • We don't want them to trough the ball from one side to the other
  • Turnovers must happen by us stepping in front of receiver and turning over in the midfield OR
  • Through pockets in the midfield

If they transfer to help-side:

  • Wide midfielder will step to the outside back
  • CAM will mark the blocker and everyone else will drop to a 3/4 press
