DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER (DM)
- The "quarterback" role when in attack
- Providing link-up between DEF and attacking players; often making contact with ball carriers
- One will step into more central role (CM) while defending
- One will play as free man (FM), covering hot line to goal and stepping into ball carriers
- BOTH: Good ball speed, wide passing range, strong on ball, not panicking
ATTACKING MIDFIELDER (AM)
- The "flashy" role when in attack
- Providing link-up between DM and STR; presenting "second line" option to DEF when on ball
- Vital to start narrow when on ball, keep outside passing lanes open
- Key players defensive, esp on 60 press. Will obtain a lot of turnover ball from cutting out panic balls down the line
- BOTH: Strong on ball, good ball carrier at speed, willing to take the game on, good engine
ALL MIDFIELDERS
