Before starting - give all players a ball and coach them to strike the ball properly. Focus on hand position (double V on spine of stick), ball position and footwork. Hit against the fence.
Exercise - 2 attackers and a passive shadowing defender.
Players cycle through positions.
V1 attacking player 1 carries the ball towards defender - goes left or right and strikes or passes ball to goal. Cones guide run and create barrier between defender.
V2 - attacking player stands with back to defener and receives a pass from 23m. Turns defender and shoots.
Shooting Technique:
1. Technique is more important than power.
2. Transfer weight from back foot to front as the stick swings through.
3. Point left shoulder at goal and follow through the line.
4. Shuffle step or crossover step with feet.
Tactics:
Stay close to central defender, but use body to protect the ball. Don't avoid the defender and end up taking too wide.
Big late movement - keep defender guessing as long as possible.
Deflecting team mate must react depending on which direction the first attacker goes past defender.
