If you see the attached video from our "Drills" section it gives a very good visual of the basic "scrum position" which should be used by all players whenever going into contact.

For instance, when guarding the ball in a ruck situation this position is the strongest one to adopt.

The key points are:

  • Eyes open, head up, chin off chest
  • Rounded shoulders, braced for impact
  • Legs apart, in squat position, bent at knee
  • Straight back, weight on balls of the feet to allow for quick reaction
