Does anyone know any drills to practice marking? Players are familiar with marking theory and need to implement it including front marking and goal side marking. I have found a good half court practice which emphasises the importance of marking. Wandered if anyone had any other ideas?
Hi Tim
Here is a session which you can tweak to make it suited to focus on marking, however there are drills within this plan that implement marking in 1v1 situations and dispossessing the player with the ball - Defending the break plan.
Plus, here are some focused marking drills that you could you also try out on your players:
Match-up-1v1 - marking using a fun game to develop skills.
Marking - from what you said your players seem to have already grasped the idea of marking but you can use this to sharpen their tools once more if needed.
Marking and Chanelling - have your players following their player making it difficult to receive the pass and taking it towards their goal.
I hope this helps.
