The coach stands at the net on the deuce side and the player starts from the service line. The coach moves the player around with volleys, and the player hits only slices back to the coach.
Control while being tired is a skill that top players possessed. Too many tennis players are not able to put the ball exactly where they want while stretching for the balls or sliding to take a proper position. Additionally modern tennis is based mostly on topspin shots so the coach should incorporate slice shots to broaden player's abilities.
In this drill the player works on few factors at the same time. Physical skills like endurance, reaction and speed are improved because of the pace of the volleys. Control and technique of slice shots can be easily developed because of the short distance to the playing coach. With more players, the coach can let one of them to hit volleys while others can switch after few slices to keep everyone working.
