Hockey: deflection goal

Player start with a ball outside the circle and have to hit or slap/sweep hit the ball to the far post for the player on the far post to be able deflect the ball into the goal.

Play the ball in from the top of the circle to be deflected into the goal by the player on the post Then the players run round the cones to go to the back of the other queue.

Setup Practice as shown. Ensure that there are plenty of balls. Players have to dribble to the circle and shoot as soon as they enter.

The player at the front of the queue passes to the player by the cones. They then dribble round the cones, shoot and the join the back of the queue. The player originally at the front of the queue then goes to stand by the cones and the exercise carries on in the same fashion.

Player 2(left wing) receives ball from the Player 1 (left midfield) and takes the ball into the zone, where the defender can try and win the ball. Just before player 2 loses the ball, he/she turns away from the RD and passes the ball to player 1. It is important that this player stays outside the 23m area and straight behind player 2. When player 1 receives the ball, he/she plays the ball to player 3, who runs towards the circle and uses player 4 + 5 to try and score a goal. Every player then follows their own pass and next ball(player 3 to 4 to 5).

Player 1 runs into the circle and if the defender does not approach, player 1 can shoot at goal. Alternatively if the defender approaches, player 1 can play a one two with player 2 and then shoot at goal. Player 2 needs to run out to make him/her self available for the pass from player 1. *** AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON *** Objective : Players to be in the correct position when deflecting a ball at the back post. Purpose : Increase the chances of connecting with the ball and therefore scoring a goal. Set-up :  A midfield passer will start with the ball and wait for an attacker to make a run on the edge of the D.  Attacker will initially run towards the passer to show for the ball, then peel off, aiming their run towards the baseline. At this point, the passer will play the ball into the attackers path and the far post attacker will start their run towards the far post. Attacker with the ball will hit a cross in the direction of the far post. The far post attacker should be in a set position and attempt to deflect the cross into the goal.

Player runs down the byline and passes the ball to a player on the far post. Who tries and scores with a first time shot. Players run round the cone to get to the other queue.

The player on the left passes the ball into the path of the player on the right. When this player receives the ball they continue to run with with it before passing the ball to the player on the far post who then has shot on goal. The player passing to the far post continues to run after their pass and takes up a new position by the right post. The practice can now start again from the other side.

Player with ball onthe right runs in the circle and after commiting the keeper passes the ball to the other player who has run to the far post and scores.

Players start with a ball on the back line they run with the ball to get the Goalkeeper to commit  and then pass the ball across to the far post for the player to score the goal.

Play alternates from going up the left, to going up the right. The player waiting in the queue passes out to the wing, where the ball is passed up the wing, before being shot at goal. The player who took the shot then joins the back of the queue. All the other players involved, then move to where they passed to.

Purpose:  Hitting the ball is an important skill when either transferring the ball, delivering longer passes into the circle or shooting. Being able to hit a flat, accurate and powerful pass can split defences, switch the play quickly, offering huge benefits to the team. Structure:  Pairs.
