DRILL TYPE: Learning to Rally EQUIPMENT: Racquets (2) Poly Spots Foam Balls To develop hitting skills for the groundstrokes. 1. The children are in 2 lines behind the baseline. The pro is on the opposite side of the net in the service box with a basket of balls. 2. Place 2 poly spots on the service line in both service boxes ( hitting spots). 3. One at a time, children will come up to the hitting spot, assume the contract position or the ready position. 4. The pro will toss 3 balls to each child, who will hit a forehand or backhand ground stroke over the net. 5. After 3 hits, the children will go and pick up their 3 balls and return them to the the basket and then return to the line. Progression: 1. After they have mastered this technique, make it into a competitive game. Tips: 1. Encourage the children to keep their eyes on the ball and get their racquet back before the ball cross the net. Safety: 1. Ensure players are well spread out appropriately. 2. Use only 2 racquet per line. 3. Explain to the children when picking up and returning the ball don't cross in front of the pro.
