Each player must pick a player from the opposite team. If that player scores, they will have to do a forfeit (10-star jumps). You do not want your partner to score! Ideally a defender will pair up with a opposite attacker. The reason I have done it this way is because if you just say you can only tackle that player (like in netball) it becomes a 1 v 1 all the way on the pitch, meaning lots of players aren’t engaged in the game. Players can move for 3 seconds on the ball before either passing it on or becoming stationary.
- Encourage the tackling techniques learnt from last week to reduce the amount of turn over balls. Recap PALM2 if players are not tackling correctly. Proactive, aggressive, low, mobile and 2 hands.
- Players should be looking to mark their man when they can but step off when their teammate cannot make the tackle or has been beaten- just like they would in a game on a Sunday.
-There should be lots off movement off the ball for players to try and loose their player and to create space for the player on the ball.
- Explain and show players how their first touch is so important when placing the ball to go forward or where they want. Think about posting up and communication skills to get the ball positioned where they want to carry it.
- Really enforce the 3 second carrying rule so players feel under pressure to move the ball on. They should have pre-scanned before receiving the ball to make it easier to move on or carry to the space.
- When players are doing their mini forfeit question them as to what they could have done better to make sure their player didn’t score- were they touch tight, did they step in front, could they have got goal side etc.
