rules of free hit
Good Afternoon,
Here are the key rules for taking a free hit in field hockey:
Stationary Ball: The ball must be stationary when the free hit is taken.
Opponent Distance: Opponents must be at least 5 meters away from the ball. If an opponent is within 5 meters, they must not interfere with the taking of the free hit or attempt to play the ball.
Movement of the Ball: The ball can be moved using a hit, push, flick, or scoop. It may be raised immediately using a push, flick, or scoop but must not be intentionally raised using a hit.
Within the 23 Meters Area: If the free hit is awarded to the attack within the 23 meters area, all players other than the player taking the free hit must be at least 5 meters from the ball. The ball must not be played into the circle until it has traveled at least 5 meters or has been touched by a defending player.
Self-Pass: The player taking the free hit can play the ball any number of times but must ensure it travels at least 5 meters before it is played into the circle.
Best, Cam
