i often feel like i dont play to the best of my abilities. during practices im almost at the top of my game but come the match my skills, confidence and abilities seem to take quite a tumble. i want to please know how to keep the pace on and off the field.please please, hockey is my life!
First of all, relax on the field and have fun. As a team, you are all trying to do your best. Also, as a team, no-one is perfect. The big thing is to talk to each other, encourage each other and support each other - both in terms of positive feedback "Well done", "Good try" and in terms of being available - in space - for being able to receive a pass.
The thing about practice is that you know the other players, what is happening and how things are going to go. In the game, the opposition have a nasty habit of not doing what you want them to do, or behaving in a way that suits the drills you practiced.
The more you relax and enjoy the game, the more you will see opportunities to do the things that you have practiced
in more ways than one
