anyone know of some psychological factors involved in hockey other than concentration?
Probably a lot of things can be stated as being part of 'concentration', but I think the term is a bit too wide to be specific. You need your team (that is the individual players) to be in the correct state of mind to play the game. Factors that play a role here are%3A - self confidence (yes I, we can) - do not underestimate the opponent (ha! they are bottom of the table) - do not overestimate the opponent (oh my! they are number one and look at the goals) - focus on today (I know next week is about the championship, but only if we win today) You can build self confidence in training and during games (give praise). You can give precise tasks to eradicate over/underestimation of the opponent. Same applies to the focus. Psychology is a main factor in coaching before and during a game.
In terms of psychology concentration is a broad term, but some of the areas to look at would be the level of anxiety of the players, the players level of motivation and whether the motivation is intrinsic (self motivated) or extrinsic (do it for reward). One of the main aspects to focus on intially would be the players level of activation (how psyched up they are) each player will have their own level. There are a number of methods to figure out the players required activation level and how to help your players to reach the correct level.
