If you have a younger child that are capable of playing for an older team would it be right to hold the child back and play with its pears or give the child the opportunity to develop?
G`day
If the player is capable of keeping up and can play with the older kids safely then they should have a go. Is it possible to have them play in their own age group and do the occasional game up to start so they can test it out?
It is up to the coach to help the child get the most from the experience whether it is faster play or a more mature vision of the game, and to be able to integrate them into the team in a way that suits ALL players.
First thing to do is ask the player what they might want to do ;)
cheers
