I'm sure you know the basic skill - plenty of advice available on that. But when it comes to practising it, try to learn to get height by putting ball stationary on line of goalmouth, and throw aerials into roof of net. By concentrating on height not distance, you'll find your technique improves - as will distance naturally. Then progress onto moving ball, same drill.

Normally, as you probably already knew, the grip is just like you do while stroking. I usually start a couple feet behind the ball, parallel to the sidelines (I'm facing left). i than cross my right foot behind my left foot(like the grapevine), than cross my left foot back over so i pretty much end up in the same posotion as in the beginning, but it helps build momentum. (by now your right foot should be near the ball) i than start to pretty much flick the ball, but as "Gordon James" said, try to aim more up than out, looking for height instead of distance.
