I'm not sure how to position my team and what to call the positions as I am used to playing 11 a side hockey.
Hi Alyssa,
In the drills section of the site under the topic "Roles and responsibilities" are lots of resources which should help you with your team.
I have attached one of these resources below.
Let us know if you need any more help getting started!
Hi Alyssa,
what is the pitch size and with how many players are you playing? Also a goalie?
This is different from country to country, so let me know and I'll post a detailed answer
Regards
Hi Alyssa
Generally speaking in UK, 8 year olds play on 1/4 pitch and 9 year olds play on 1/2 pitch.
For this age, I wouldn't worry about positions too much, keep it simple, e.g. attackers and defenders.
For example:
3 attackers, (2 wings and a CF)
3 defenders, (left defence, centre def, right def)
Keep objectives simple, e.g. play game in opponents half...
In time and when players are ready for it, then gradually introduce roles and responsibilities...bit by bit...
Good luck...
