They just started with the pass and receive of the ball but i would like them to practice it even more. Most of the players are new to hockey and i don't want to give them a drill that is to hard for them to understand.
well at such a young age any and all drills are going to be hard to teach but if you just work with them and try teach them about spreading out and not bee-hiving you will find drills become a lot easyer and run more smoothly
as for drills try relays and games like rob the nest and dog and bone these games help keep enjoyment up and excitment levels high then you can slowly start adapting them into game situations and so on and so forth =]
Try three kids in a triangle that is not too big, not too small, try 6 metre sides, passing clockwise (viewed from above), they can learn to trap and then move the body (or soft deflect or transfer the ball) into a position for the second action which is the pass to the next player. Then 4 kids in a square, will learn that the body (or the ball) has to move a bit further around for the subsequent pass. Put a second ball into play if they master it. For basic skill the receiver needs to be in the hockey position with stick down as a target for the passer, and the passer needs to be aiming their pass at the stick. Cones get in the way, so use flat markers or mark X's on the turf with chalk (But maybe you should ask if you can chalk the Turf first, they are some expensive turf and grumpy groundsmen. My chalk was rained away by the following week).
