I'm trying to become a captain for my team. What are good qualities you would always look for in your captains's?
Many books have been written on the art of leadership but a few qualities I always look for. -the ability to put the team before your own needs or those of your friends in the team, eg you would play in a less favourable position if it helped the team overall or you would select someone else over your friend if they were better. -the ability to lead by example both on and off the pitch, eg always at training on time, enthusiastic etc. You should be a role model for other players in the club, especially the juniors. -motivate your team, not just through team talks but with your enthusiasm -be a good link between the coach/manager and the team and vice versa. I could go on with many more points but I will leave you with this; Anyone can captain a winning team, but when the team is losing is when you find out who the really good captains are. Good luck, Pencil
