I have heard coaches refer to "screening" runs. My understanding is that they involve a player running across the line of a pass i.e from centre to right wing - creating what in effect is a dummy run...is this correct?

A screen run is essentially a player leading laterally accross the pitch in front of a defender. This makes the defender have to make a decision - does he go with the leading player or let him go. If he lets him go the player is potentially avaiable for a pass, if he goes with him it opens up space for another attacker to lead into behind. Hope this helps.

Andy Many thanks...next thought I wrestle with is when a screening run is penalised for third party obstruction... Sincere thanks for the clarification
