I am the Skipper of an under-achieving 2XI. Individually most of my players could play 1XI but opted for an easier life lower down the Club. I struggle to get them to training on-mass and so I'm limited to pre-match warm ups to get them all together. We tend to do well against strong oppo but take far too long to get going against weaker teams. Any suggestions to help us start with the correct momentum?
What has worked in the past for me to try and get that type of player to training is to promise them that all you are going to do during training is to split the players into two teams and play a half pitch match. This normally means that they will start turning up to training because al they want to do is play games and not be told what to do in training. After a few weeks you can then start to practice some short corners at the start or end and you can try to play the game with some conditioned rules for some of the time.(i.e. 2 touch) Little added rules like if a player is late they don't play the first half of the training game. I hope this gives you something to work with Good luck Bram
