I am a new coach and very young, how do I earn respect from my players?
Sarah, ALWAYS follow through with your threats. You must let them know the repercussions to your request ahead of time. If you say you will do ten push-ups if the girls/boys talk when you are talking then you MUST have them do 10 push-ups. This is for everyone on the team. You cannot have favorites or you instantly lose respect. I let them know for every minute their late they have to run that extra. I have to follow through or they will doubt my authority. I tell them all the time that I will respect them as they will respect me. They will test you but it is your job to follow through. I hope that helps.
