Hi. I am coaching a fairly advance boy's hockey team, but they struggle to round off in the circle and score. This may be because of a crowded circle, but how do you teach them to score? any drills which I can do with them?
They probably struggle to connect withthe ball properly as they are hitting it too early, they get in to the circle and with a crowded circle have probably performed a skill of sort to get there. Have them practise moving the ball slightly towards the goal before they shoot - this way ball is already moving in the right direction.
Good drill for this is to run at an angle to the left of the D as you look at it then roll around the cone ending in a shot - the shot wont work unless they have rolled all the way around the cone to put the ball into a better shooting position. Prior to the run to the cone you can add any type of extension to make the drill more intense/complicated etc.
Thanks
Ian
