Start with simple your defenders simple passing around in the defense zone. this way the get used to pass around and learn them how to recieve the ball. I alway put cone's up see diagram, the players who is behind that cone has to dribble around. this way you teach them to look forward and not only to pass back to there defenders.
later you can start putting in attackers who are gone put pressure on the ball (from passive to active). this way players learn to find the free player in the back and reposition to stay open. stet 3 little goals where the defenders can score. by a pass or a dribble trough.
