Alot of my development players have hinted that they are scared when going for a ball at goal with a keeper present, is there anyone who can advise of a way to build confidence in this area? Thank you Jacqui
Simplest method is to take the shot at goal as soon as they cross the circle.
If they are going one on one - then train them to dribble move ball around goaly but not within reach of goaly. use back turn with ball on reverse stick side.
Make sure they have team mate (or 2 )in circle, ball carrier heads to baseline to draw defence to back of field, then pass back to teammate waiting between penalty spot and top of circle to take shot at goal, Aim for them to pass ball before they are tackled by goaly or defence.
Build muscle and Mind memory to the situation.
Familiarity always grows confidence....So start with exercises that involve the goal and no keeper with some cones in a central area to replace the GK. Then progress it accordingly by slowly introducing a static keeper to fully involved gk.
in more ways than one
