Hi Andrew,
As you said, it can be difficult to teach basic Hockey technique’s whilst keeping it engaging and fun. We suggest using fun, all inclusive dribbling drills to get all the players involved. Before starting the drill, you can go over the basics of grip and stance and emphasise that’s what you want to see the players using throughout the drill. You can also take breaks during the drill to introduce a new technique. A good drill to use for this could be ‘Cross Over Tag’ or ‘Get Rid of Balls’. There are some other good drills that you could use in the Movement with the ball section. I hope this was helpful and I hope it goes well!
Matt
Cross over Tag
One player without stick or ball is the catcher. Everyone else has to try and get from one side to the other without getting caught.
Players that are caught will help catch.
Ensure that everyone has crossed over to the side before commencing the next run.
Ensure players keep their heads up to avoid collisions and spot the danger (defender).
