1-2-1 coaching with u12 son (forward-JDC level) need to keep it fresh and fun any ideas? Andy Batch
Andy, it depends on your skill ability? why not talk to his coaches at club and JDC and ask if they have any ideas. I often give 'homework' drill to my U 12's.
If they can't help ask here again.
I don't like to offer advice that may run counter to what your son's coaches are planing.
Dave
Hi Dave
Thanks for taking the time to answer, I played NL Prem back in the day and still play for England vets so keep my hand in. My son is coached at school and at a local club so getting plenty of input, he wants me to help him with basic drills so I was looking for ones that only require the two of us but that aren't too repeatitive so I keep his interest up. Specifically he plays upfront as I did so looking for receiving and leading drills.
Thanks
Andy
Keep it simple
Maybe you lifting the ball to knee height so he learns to trp a bouncing ball. Good old yardtick/indian dribble. you block tackling so he learns to lift the ball over your stick when it's on the floor (too many lift the ball but out of control) so it land just beyong the defender.
another good 'homework' drill is to stand fet apart but rather than 'yardstick' dribble push the ball under control side to side about 2 metres each way and move sideways to trap and push back the other way. This creates good footwork and ball control and stop players over streching when a ball comes just outside their reach (a very common fault).
I hope this helps
Dave
