Tennis: Backhand quick shadows

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • 2 cones are set on the ad side.
  • Player runs to the side cone as fast as possible and hits backhand using open stance.
  • Player recovers and runs again to the front cone hitting backhand using close stance.

COACHING POINTS

In this drill player works on speed, quickness and deceleration. Quickness in tennis is important but without ability to control body movement while decelerating player will not be able to execute good strokes. Coach should pay attention to player's balance while hitting and give tips about footwork to improve quality of running and recovering after the stroke.
