Tennis: Change The Pattern To Surprise The Rival

Sportplan has been very helpful in guiding me through my first year...
Bill, Newly qualified coach

DESCRIPTION

  • Coach feeds 3 balls to the ad side
  • Player hits 2 backhand slices cross-court and 1 forehand drop shot inside out

COACHING POINTS

  • In this drill, player works on backspin shots and the factor of surprise
  • Player starts with 2 cross-court slice shots from the backhand side to keep the ball low and to not allow the opponent to hit really offensive shots
  • The next shot, player runs around the backhand and sends the signal that he will try to take advantage with powerful forehand
  • Here is the surprising factor because player hits forehand drop shot inside out
  • It is important to work on regular backswing for the drop shot to make sure that opponent can't read player's intention by seeing differences between regular forehand preparation and drop shot attempt
