DESCRIPTION

Simple handling drill working on catching, passing and straight line running. Line up in lines of three or four. The feeder plays the ball to the first receiver and player transfer the ball along the line of players.

COACHING POINTS

  • Make sure players stay square and run straight
  • Hands out early to receive the ball
  • Transfer the ball across the body, don't bring the ball into the chest
  • Players should start with their outside foot forward
  • A great drill for large groups

Catch and pass channel | Passing

Catch and pass channel:

  • 8+ players 
  • Ball 
  • Players stand at equal distance away at differnt points along the grid.
  • One working player runs in the middle of the channel. 
  • The players on the outside pass the ball into the running player.
  • The Working player must complete 2 sets of passing - 1 run off each hand.

Speed Handling Race | Passing

Speed Handling Race:

Two lines of four stand back to back with the ball on the right hand side of each line. On go they both sprint 15m whilst passing down the line and then turn to run back whilst returning down the line to the player who started with the ball.

Individual Skills | Handling

Individual Skills:

  • Move the ball in a figure of 8 round your legs
  • Pass the ball round your back. Who can pass the ball around their back 5 times the fastest ?.
  • Throw the ball in the air and clap before you catch it. Who can make the highest number of claps ?

    Forward sprints / Backward sprints. | Agility & Running Skills

    Forward sprints / Backward sprints.:

  • Set-up drill area as shown.
  • Players line up at the start.
  • All players run forward 20 meters (2 sets of cones) in a tight straight line.
  • Players then run backwards 10 meter (1 set of cones).
  • The players, then run on 20 meter (2 sets of cones), and the drill continues until they reach the end of the cones.
  • Players then sprint back to the start.
