Rugby: Defence - Swimming past the defender

Great site and excellent drills. Easy to understand and apply in training....
Tyrone, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

The player starts on the inside of the first tackle bag.

On the whistle he moves past the bag, pulling it back and toward the ground as he runs past.

He then holds his position with "fast feet" on the spot until he hears the whistle and then "swims" past the next bag , and does the same.

COACHING POINTS

This drill is used to help a player move across the face of a defender whom is trying to take him out.

The defender needs to use his arms and body to manipulate the defender so that he can propell himself past and move on towards the next attacker.
