Hockey: Aerial Pass 2: Over an Opponent

Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

- Performing the aerial pass
- Players should practice this technique in 3's, with one of the players standing between the other 2
- One of the outside players should attempt to aerial the ball over the player in the middle, to the other outside player
- Rotate the player in the middle as necessary

COACHING POINTS

- Initial focus should be made on lifting the ball high
- Increasing comfort levels will naturally allow a greater length of aerial
- To further aid distance of aerial, practice with ball in various positions relative to front foot
- It is not necessary to have a player in the middle, and should not be insisted upon if the player is not comfortable. It is simply a suggestion to promote height into the pass
