DRILL TYPE: Tennis Skills FOCUS: FH Groundstrokes Progressions EQUIPMENT: Youth Racquets (2) Basket of Red/ Foam Balls (2) Quick Feet Donuts (2) Throw Down Lines (5) SETUP: Place line (5) throw down lines close to the baseline for the safety zone for the players to stand behind. On the service line place the 2 quick feet donut, and 2 racquets on both the right and left sides of the service boxes for the players who are hitting. The coaches are on opposite side of the net, on the service line with a baskets of balls. MISSION: Divide the players into two groups and have them line up behind the safety zone at the baseline. Break down the forehand groundstroke into steps ( 1 Sideways to target, make a L ), ( 2 Contact Point, hit ball to the side of the body), ( 3 Follow-through, finish over opposite shoulder). The coach will hand feed a ball to the players, who will hit a shorter version of a forehand groundstroke. The players start at the sideways to target with their racquet at the contact point and make the hit and follow through. The coach supervises and gives appropriate suggestions.
Works on contact point and follow-through. Keep the knees bent and back straight.
