Start of a game

How do I get my girls to show more consistency at the beginning of a game?

The longer the game goes the better they get.

Glenn I coach u13 girls both at school level and regional and this is what works for me.

They must be warmed up by the Captian a half an hr before the game , we do a whole traing session just on the warm up and during this session I get then girls to pump themselves up, you need a good Captian and vice to lead this, they are also forbiddern to talk about the opposition at all but how great we are, they then come over to me and I brief each kid as to their role and what I and the team expect from them, I do allow the parents to listern in at the bigining of the season ( sort of comforter to the kids) I breif the parents during the warm up ad ask them not to refer to their child by name I can do it because I am the coach but parents can put too much pressure on their kids. I debrief the kids after every game as soon as the final wistle goes. We conceded 3 goals this season, I had 5 11 year olds in my team not one of them turned 12 during the season. They have go to believe in themselves , motivate , I never show how proud of them I am and they work harder to win praise be very sparing with praize they will raze themselves. Hope that helps kids like routine.

how kids do you have in the team?  i use to use the rule, first there first on the court (or field) and first to arrive will get their preferred position (if you like).  im assuming you mean that they are only just making the game but not getting their early enough to warm up.  how old is the team?  if they are kids then talk to the parents and explain that all the team must be at the field withing (whatever time you want).  if they are adults...well not much you can do.  the other option is to get right up the kids for not being there on time and then they will get up their parents because they dont want to be yelled at or if you want to add that they will have to do extra drills running drlls at training until everyone turns up on time.  start with the easier option and move to harsher.
