Attacking and Defensive Cross Court Shots

p>If your player is regularly losing points when returning a serve or while in a rally then developing their defensive and attacking cross court shots could boost their chances of staying in the game.

Use this cross court plan and boost your player's backhand and forehand strokes by getting him/her to move across the court to hit the less risky cross court shots, which when played correctly will give your player time to move and get into an attacking position ready for their favoured point winning shot.

By going through these drills to get your player used to hitting the backhand to the corner of the court either straight from the serve, or from various positions on the court just like they would in a game situation.

Getting your players to practise hitting shots which have bounced or on the volley while moving back and forth to the net or baseline you can increase their reaction time and hone their technical skills. This way they will quickly learn to adjust their feet according to how the ball arrives at them from different heights or angles.

So after going through this session plan your player will have a better understand of how to return shots and serves in a way which give them time to manipulate the play and why it is better to play more cross court shots rather than down the line where the net is lower, the ball has a longer distance to travel, and there are better angle possibilities.
