Hockey Drill Demonstration

Description

Normal best hit from around the penalty spot.
Attacker stands ready to receive the ball, ball gets passed in from the right side off the D. after receiving the ball the player squeeze hits the ball into the goal
Note that this hit is much easier the softer the pitch.

Coaching points

  • Player standing sideways to the goal
  • Ball should be received behind away or by the right foot
  • Player steps back and hits the ball
  • The player should hit a wristy shot
  • Hands slightly down the stick (not a necessity)
  • The stick head should come downwards on the ball (if the ball was a clock with 3 o'clock facing the goal and 12 at the top the contact should be at 10 - 11 o'clock)
  • player should try and squeeze the ball into the turf and to towards the goal
