Hockey: Wall pass under pressure

DESCRIPTION

4 players with 2 balls. One player in the middle is tightly marked. One of the players with the ball passes the ball at the marked player who then wall passes the ball back to this player for him/her to run with the ball to the other side. Then the 2nd player with the ball does the same once on the other side. Turn and repeat role reversal in the middle.

Dribble then Gate Pass:

White Player 1 dribbles with the ball to the blue cone before passing the ball through the red gates.

Red player 1 receives the ball once it has gone through the gate and then repeats the practice in the opposite direction.

switch out of trouble | Overload situations

switch out of trouble:

No matter where you are on the pitch, if you feel that you cannot continue to apply pressure towards the goal Then start to play away from defender, and play the ball to your supporting player; this player then has the choice to:

1.Change the point of attack by passing the ball across the pitch, or
2.Pass the ball to the original player.

Passing with Decision Making | Passing & Receiving

Passing with Decision Making:

  • Setup the practice as shown with cones 5m, 10m and 15m away.
  • Split the group into pairs.

    • Player 1 remains behind the line while player 2 moves backwards and forwards into the different zones. The position of player 2 determines what kind of return pass is made. This exercise develops decision making as well as using three passing techniques in one exercise.

    First touch | Passing & Receiving

    First touch:

    Set up as shown 10m long by 6m. (Place cones at each end.

    Player 1 pushes the ball through the cones. Player 2 receives the pass and with their 1st touch puts ball to the right of the right cone and then pushes the ball through the opposite cones.

    Player 1 receives and with their 1st touch puts the ball to the right of the right cone and repeats.
