Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • 3 teams of 2, with 2 of the teams working together to keep the ball from the defending team in the marked area.
  • If the defenders intercept or tackle they swap to become attackers with the team that lost the ball. Team that lost the ball are now defenders.

COACHING POINTS

  • Pre scanning and first touch to retain the ball are important.
  • Players should aim to have a wide base when receiving and keeping the ball on the forehand side to offer pass or carry.
  • Defenders should be marking tightly, being low, mobile and aggressive in the tackle.
  • Attackers should aim for fewer touches to keep the ball moving.
  • Making it directional so into a turn and burn game can give players a directional focus.
