Hockey: 1 v 1 positional practice

Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

For instance a Right wing (RW) on receiving the ball has to try and beat the Left Defender (LD) to try and get a short corner or score a goal. The (RW) becomes the (LD) and the (LD) goes to the back of the queue.

COACHING POINTS

  • This practice can be set up around the pitch in various positions or situations.
  • Make the outcome realistic to the situation. For example for 1 v 1 for a defender coming out the back it would not be realistic for this player to run up the pitch and score. It would be better for this player to finish with a pass to another player.
