Hockey: Close Circles: Scoring under pressure

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

- 5 vs 5
- Played in small area with marked D's
- High intensity drill
- Players can only score by pushing/flicking the ball

COACHING POINTS

- Small pitch increases pressure on ball carrier
- Emphasis should be made on the increase in speed by flicking compared with slapping/hitting
- Forward should always be aware that the task is to score, and they should therefore be moving in and around the D
- Players should be careful of positioning as can potentially restrict passing channels
- Should be short, sharp and fast
- Size of the pitch is dependent upon players ability

PROGRESSION

- Introduce stipulations into the game (number of touches, non-verbal etc.)
