Hockey: Reverse stick lift

Great site. An absolute must for coaches who are willing to change...
Ignatius

DESCRIPTION

- Performing a lift on the reverse side
- Useful when a player is being channeled
- Set up a hurdle. Have the player drag the ball right to left, and then lift the ball over the hurdle

COACHING POINTS

- The initial drag is just as important as the lift. This will cause a defender to commit to a flat stick challenge
- Players often advertise they are going to lift the ball by opening their stick face too early. Emphasise this is a bad habit
- Make sure players keep their heads up for as long as possible

PROGRESSION

- Have players open their wrists up as opposed to wrapping the stick around the ball when lifting. This extra split second could make all the difference
- Introduce a passive defender to better recreate a game scenario
