Pickleball machine set to fast speed to launch pickleball to within 1-2 feet of the baseline. Player returns the pickleball deep between the baseline and a chaulk line (2 feet away from the baseline). After all players have returned 5-10 serves adjust the machine to aim at the players backhand and repeat drill. After all players have returned the backhand serves set the pickleball machine to oscillate so the pickleballs land within the players court. Use cones or hula hoops for targets near the baseline. Return of serves should be deep to allow sufficient time for players to get to the NVZ

Indoor courts give players less time and less room. Help them sharpen their split step, shorten their swing and stay calm, and winter becomes a season of real progress.
A tiebreak is a short sprint where every point is worth the same as a break of serve. The players who win them are rarely the ones who hit hardest. Here is how to coach the patterns, habits and scoreboard thinking that win the big points.
Most club players practise the serve on its own and then have no idea what to do with the ball that comes back. Serve plus one is the pattern that turns a good serve into a won point.
