DESCRIPTION

DRILL TYPE: Tennis Skills

EQUIPMENT:

  1. (2) Youth Racquets
  2. (2) Poly Spots, (1) Green, (1) Orange
  3. (2) Basket of Red or Foam Balls

SETUP:

  1. Divide the players into two groups, (1) group goes over to the opposite side of the net ( the catchers) and the other group are the ( hitters) and they make 2 hitting lines and stand behind the safety line.
  2. Place (2) Poly Spots on the service line for the hitting spots, place two racquets on the poly spots.
  3. The coaches are on the opposite side of the net, in alleys with baskets of red or foam balls.

MISSION:

  1. The first group of players ( hitters) comes to the poly spots, picks up racquet and stands side to target.
  2. The coaches will hand feed one ball at a time, to either the forehand or backhand side of the player.
  3. The player hits the ball over the net to the player who will catch the ball after one bounce.
  4. After the player hits the ball, they place the racquet back on the spot and run to the opposite side of the net, to become the catcher and the catcher moves to the end of the hitting line.
  5. After a few successful attempts, switch to a competitive game of Toss, Hit, and Catch.



COACHING POINTS

  1. Keep your eyes on the ball.
  2. Keep control of your racquet swing.
  3. Keep your knees bent and back straight.
  4. Turned sideways to target.
