Review Dribbling Technique: Lean forward and bend your knees slightly, keeping your weight evenly distributed on the front of your feet. Push the ball toward the floor with the fingers and wrist of one hand (NOT PALMS). Wrist and fingers should be relaxed and hand cupped with fingers spread. Keep the ball close to your body. Look forward not at the ball.
1) Dribble with right hand only. Students should bend knees and place their left foot forward. Bend over and bounce ball beside your back leg.
2) Switch and do the same on your left side, (Right foot forward this time)
3) Low Dribble: Bounce ball rapidly below knee level. Try both hands
4) Crossover: Have students dribble the ball across their body using one hand and then the other. Students in need of a challenge can practice bouncing the ball between their legs.
Activity
1) Divide the class into two teams
2) Place 3/4 flags on both baselines. The flags should be different colours
ie: One side Red and the other Blue
3) Each player has a ball and the objective is to dribble to the other side of the gym and steal the opposing teams flag. Once a flag is captured they get a free pass back to their own end and that flag is out for the remainder of the game.
4) Players can defend their flags by flicking away another players ball with their hands while maintaining control of their own. If they successfully make contact the invading player must go to the side and do an exercise ie: 5 Burpees before resuming the game
5) Each team will also have 2 defenders with pool noodles who can tag invading players directly. They only need to tag the player they do Not need to make contact with the ball. They must maintain control of their own ball while tagging the invading player with a pool noodle.
6) First team to successfully retrieve all of the flags is the winner.
